alone

I am having a frustrating day.
Another snowstorm, when the snow had just melted.
(that's not the main frustration, but a big one.)
no one likes to read a complaining post,
and I don't want to do one anyway.

ummm so so..........

WELL, I got paid a big compliment today.

Let set this up for you:
So, my museum studies class is curating a show for next month. It's exciting but the problem is, there are 15 people in the class, and the vast majority are theatre majors and have absolutely no idea what they are doing.... I do. They do not listen to what I have to say, either... which is the worst part. It's so hard when you are the only one who has any experience in a room full of people who've never done it before and just won't listen to you. Don't get me started on the collective taste in art of the class.

So anyway, the professor asked me to stay next time to help with the selection "because I have experience." Maybe it's not a compliment, she just wants someone with a little knowledge to help this unwieldy process... but I took it as such. It made me feel really good.

Side Walk When She Walks Alexisonfire

Dressed to kill, you look so right
I am drunk with lust tonight
Your wounds are opening wide
And they might be just my size

Now I'm afraid of open water
But I often bathe in sin
Let's be honest, you know you shouldn't bother
'Cuz with me, it's impossible to win

Dressed to kill, you look so right
I am drunk with lust tonight
Your wounds are opening wide
And they might be just...

There was always
Warmth between us
There was always
Warmth between us

Dressed to kill, you look so right
I am drunk with lust tonight
Your wounds are opening wide
And they might be just my size
Just my size, just my size
Just my size, just my size

Just my size, just my size
Just my size, just my size
Just my size.

I ate a piece of art today

I got to go on a behind-the-scenes talk/tour with the curator of Williams College Museum of Art today. We got to see previews of upcoming exhibitions about ethnophotographics. We got to go into the storage in the basement, where there are over 13,000 pieces of art being housed. There is so much art in storage, things are hung from the ceiling & rafters, and packed together as close as it can get without actually touching. I loved it.

We also saw a little of the current exhibitions. One is by Felix Gonzalez Torres, called "Placebo". You can't really tell by the photo, but that is all hard candy wrapped in silver - about 1200 pieces. You are encouraged to eat the candy as part of the exhibition. I felt almost sinful touching the art, not to mention eating it. All your life you are told not to get too close, don't touch the art - even though it's one of my secret desires. I would die to run my fingers over a painting, to feel the brushstrokes and thickness of paint. You are forbidden, of course, because the natural oils and dirt from your hands destroys the work permanently. Anyway, the reason you are supposed to do this with this particular exhibition is because it is about AIDS. AIDS takes away from your body, little by little. This is what you are doing with the art. Also, you have about 1200 T-cells in your body, which AIDS destroys. One piece of candy for every T-cell. You, by eating the candy, are essentially "destroying" the art. The piece is no longer a perfect rectangle anymore, by the way. The edges are worn away and a little jagged. It's breathtaking.

I applied for an internship with Sol LeWitt this week at MASS MoCA. I am dying to get it.

Top 10 & some thoughts

Top 10 - the best makeup

1. Stila smudge pots (gel eyeliner)
2. Christian Dior Diorshow mascara
3. Benefit Dr. Feelgood (mattfying face primer)
4. Urban Decay eyeshadow
5. Stila Illuminating Liquid Foundation
OR
6. Bare Escentuals Mineral Foundation
7. Rimmel Kohl eyeliner (I use this for the bottom lid)
8. Sephora Jumbo lipliner
9. Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer
10. Vincent Longo concealer

Most of this is a little pricey, but sooo worth it!! Especially the Diorshow mascara. When I can, I get these things for much cheaper on eBay, or use sample sizes. Just a little tip!
I try not to use foundation whenever possible, but Stila is the best for full coverage, and Bare Escentuals is good for everyday use.

Ok, that was really superficial but makeup is sooo fun! especially the high quality stuff. It's a vice.

A word about today --- I usually try to ignore Valentine's Day. It's so commercial. But I'm bringing it up bc last year, Joe was my only valentine. I was feeling bad about the guy I had broken up when I left SUU, and Joe got me this silly, cheap Valentine candy thing to cheer me up. It was funny, and cute. I can't believe that was a year ago, and now.... things will never be the same. I'll never forget him or that gesture, which was the sort of thing he'd do all the time.

A Lifetime

this is for my friends that died young.

A Lifetime Better Than Ezra

Allie woke up 8AM
Graduation day.
Got into a car,
And crashed along the way.

When we arrived late to the wake,
Stole the urn while they
Looked away,
And drove to the beach
'Cause I knew you'd want it
That way.

And you were standing
On the hood of the car
Singing out loud
When the sun came up.

And I know I wasn't right,
But it felt so good.
And your mother didn't mind,
Like I thought she would.
And that REM song was playing
In my mind.
And three and a half minutes
Felt like a lifetime

It felt like a lifetime

And you move like water
I could drown in you.
And I fell so deep once,
Till you pulled me through

You would tell me
"No one is allowed to be so proud
They never reach out
When they're giving up."

And I know I wasn't right,
But it felt so good.
And your mother didn't mind,
Like I thought she would.
And that REM song was playing
In my mind.
And three and a half minutes
Felt like a lifetime

Are you sitting in the lights?
Or combing your hair again,
And talking in rhymes?
Are you sitting in the lights?

When I got home, heard the phone,
Your parents had arrived.
And your dad set his jaw
Your mom just smiled and sighed.

But they left soon
And I went to my room.
Played that disc that you'd given me,
And I shut my eyes
Swear I could hear the sea.

When we were standing
On the hood of your car
Singing out loud when the sun came up.

And I know I wasn't right,
But it felt so good.
And your mother didn't mind,
Like I thought she would.
And that REM song was playing
In my mind.
And three and a half minutes,
Three and a half minutes,

Felt like a lifetime.
